Press Release – 30th November 2023
SCOTTISH COVID-19 PUBLIC INQUIRY
TO HEAR EVIDENCE FROM ‘SCOTTISH COVID BEREAVED’ MEMBERS
Thursday, 30th November 2023 at 10am
George House, 126 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4HH
Statement by Aamer Anwar, Solicitor- on behalf of Scottish Covid Bereaved.
On the 24th of October 2023, the Scottish Covid-19 Public Inquiry began its substantial evidential hearings, which focuses on the health and social care impacts of the pandemic.
Today the Inquiry will hear further evidence from members of Scottish Covid Bereaved, starting with Peter McMahon, Lianne Menzies then Margaret Waterton.
Aamer Anwar stated:
“Whilst part of our team is in London preparing to question Matt Hancock and watching his evidence, it is deeply disappointing and disrespectful that the Scottish Covid Bereaved are yet to receive any detailed response to the letter written to the First Minister on the issue of WhatsApps. The evidence we will hear today in Scotland from the bereaved will further emphasise the need for truth and accountability from those in power during the pandemic.”
The hearing will take place at George House, 126 George Street, Edinburgh. There is also a viewing room in Regus, 83 Princes Street, Edinburgh. The Inquiry can be viewed online via https://www.youtube.com/@covidinquirysco.
