COVID-19 INQUIRY

Aamer Anwar has been chosen as solicitor to represent members of the Scottish Bereaved Families for Justice Group.

This was an important first step to securing the Inquiries.

Aamer Anwar & Co. will represent the group throughout the inquiry process and will assist in trying to ensure that there is an implementation of any findings and recommendations once the Inquiries are concluded.

You can join the Inquiries if you satisfy at least one of three conditions:

• You have lost a family member to Covid-19 in Scotland, and you live in Scotland
• You have lost a family member to Covid-19 in Scotland, but you live outside of Scotland
• You live in Scotland, but lost a family member to Covid-19 outside of Scotland*
  • *Please note, that in the case of the death of your relative outside of Scotland this cannot be included in the Scottish Public Inquiry, but we would refer you to a lawyer from our partners outside Scotland for the UK Covid 19 Public Inquiry.

Aamer Anwar & Co. has applied for Core Participant Status on behalf of the Scottish Bereaved Families for Justice Group. Once core participant status has been granted, we will be able to represent all individuals and the families that have signed up with us.

We will take steps to ensure that you have the support you need throughout the public inquiries.

We will liaise with you throughout the process to ensure that you have a voice. It is vital that bereaved family members get answers. This means that people, and not politicians, will be front and centre of any public inquiry.

We will also be working together to influence the scope of the inquiry, the people who hold positions on the inquiry panels, and what kind of questions will be asked from witnesses and submissions on the evidence to be heard.

• Step 1: Apply to join Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice Scotland by emailing them here.
• Step 2: Once the Scottish group has confirmed to you that your application to join has been accepted by them, you can then apply for membership of the Facebook group here.

Please note that the Scotland Facebook group is a closed group i.e., is available to view by approved members only. The Scottish Administrators will then run through their much shorter approval process and will advise you once you have been accepted.

The primary function of the Scotland Branch is to prepare its members for participation in the Scottish Public Inquiry and UK Public Inquiry into the Government’s handling of the Coronavirus pandemic. They campaigned long and hard for such an Inquiry and engaged directly with the Scottish Government and UK Government to win it. They appointed Aamer Anwar as their chosen solicitor to represent them in helping secure the Inquiries and in helping them to define the scope of the Inquiries (a process which is still ongoing in relation to the Scottish Public Inquiry). Aamer will represent the group throughout both inquiry processes and will assist in trying to ensure that there is an implementation process of any findings and recommendations once the Inquiry is concluded.
