PRESS RELEASE – 28TH NOVEMBER – SCOTTISH COVID BEREAVED GROUP TO MEET LORD BRAILSFORD – THE NEW CHAIR OF THE SCOTTISH COVID PUBLIC INQUIRY ON TUESDAY 29TH NOVEMBER
The meeting will take place at the Leonardo Hotel, 1 Morrison Link, Haymarket, Edinburgh, EH3 8D. The families will arrive at 10.30am to meet with Lord Brailsford between 11 am and 1pm- following which there will be a family press conference at 1.30pm.
Statement by Solicitor Aamer Anwar instructed to act on behalf of members of the Scottish branch of the UK group ‘Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice’:-
“For the last two years the families that we represent have campaigned for an independent public inquiry to take place into the handling of the pandemic both at the UK level as well as in Scotland.
These families have fought to hold to account those in charge of our public institutions, because thousands of people died, who didn’t need to. The shameful appearance of Matt Hancock on ‘I’m a Celebrity get me out of here’ has compounded their agony and insulted the memory of every person who lost their life to Covid19.
The families were informed on the 3rd October that the Chair of the Scottish Inquiry, Lady Poole, has resigned. The families had for months expressed grave concerns about not being front and centre of the Scottish Inquiry as they were promised by the Scottish Government.
It is hoped the families Lord Brailsford recognises that his first task must be to win the trust of the bereaved families. The grieving families will look to Lord Brailsford to restore their confidence that the Scottish Public Inquiry will be an effective mechanism to ensure that no institution, and no Minister of Government whether they be Scottish, Welsh, UK or Northern Irish is allowed to escape robust scrutiny.”
