Statement by Aamer Anwar, Lead Solicitor on behalf of Scottish Covid Bereaved –

“The UK Government & devolved nations failed in their most fundamental duty in protecting the lives of their citizens . What took place was corporate homicide on an industrial scale, yet many of those responsible have never truly faced justice. Today my clients the Scottish Covid Bereaved welcome the findings & recommendations of the public inquiry, it has been robust and ruthless, but we still have a long way to go in the search for truth & ultimately justice & a legacy for the many 1000s whose lives were taken from them.”

Statement by Margaret Waterton, member of Scottish Covid Bereaved, who lost her husband, David Waterton aged 71 on 2 January 2021, and mother, Margaret Simpson aged 86 on 16 June 2020 –

“Every man, woman and child in this country was impacted by Covid 19. The pandemic  was devastating for me and my family. Losing my Mum to nosocomial Covid 19 and my husband to Covid Pneumonia within 6 months of each other changed all of us forever. I commend Baroness Hallett and the UK Inquiry team for reaching this significant milestone of reporting on their findings and recommendations from Module 1 just over a year after the first witnesses began to give their evidence.  Alongside robust recommendations, I trust that Baroness Hallett will make clear who will be accountable for implementing these and ensuring that lessons are learned and changes are made.”
